The Pyrenees has so much to offer! And anything you might want to do is a comfortable drive away. The roads in Spain are fantastic and we would recommend renting a car. Alternative options would be to use the very thorough and comfortable bus system or high speed train (the AVE with schedules online).
In this region, you will be able to enjoy everything from world class fly-fishing, camping and hiking in Ordessa and Monte Perdido, to exploring medieval villages, fortresses, churches and monasteries along the Camino de Santiago (some are even tucked into hidden mountainsides). The area of the wedding and the town of Barbastro are filled with interesting things to do and visit...vineyards, antique shops and lovely little villages like Aínsa and Alquézar.
If you’d like to adventure over the Pyrenees to France, you will find yourselves in the region of the
Pyrénées-Atlantiques, near the lovely town of Pau. We have spent many a day visiting antique markets with Robert’s aunts and uncles, stopping for picnics, popping into duck farms, wineries, and cheese tastings…literally eating our way through the region.
If you’d prefer a more city–like experience, we would recommend Zaragoza with its history dating back to Roman times, it’s charming shops, restaurants and its lovely old quarter.
Now, it’s time to start planning!
