About

OLIVÁN

As many of you know, and for those of you who may not, we’ve been traveling to the Pyrenees in the north of Spain every year for the last 6 years. We are now very fortunate to have a small farmhouse in a little, mountainside village of 16 homes called Oliván. When thinking about where to get married, we realized it was the perfect opportunity to gather our family and friends in a place we love so much and have them experience this special area on a very personal level.

Robert’s mother, Pilar, was born and lived in this region of Spain until she and Lee married and started their family in New York. Over the years, Robert and his brothers spent many summers in and around the Pyrenees, staying with their grandparents, aunts, uncles and extended family. It is the rich heritage of the Lopez-Calleja family that has influenced so much of Robert’s upbringing. It was his love of Spain, and his eagerness to introduce me to this part of his life, that brought us here together. We want to introduce you to this unique region and there is no better way to enjoy Spain than a wedding celebration!

There will be more details to follow, but we wanted to provide the basics so that those of you interested in joining can start planning. We encourage those of you who are interested in exploring the region to arrive early or stay longer. We have some travel information included here as well and will be updating the site along the way.

~~~~~
Como muchos de vosotros sabéis, y para aquellos que no, hemos estado yendo a los Pirineos, en el norte de España, cada año durante los últimos 6 años. Ahora estamos muy contentos de tener una casa en una aldea en la ladera de una montaña, llamada Olivan. Cuando pensamos en dónde podríamos  casarnos, nos dimos cuenta de que era la oportunidad perfecta para reunir a nuestra familia y amigos en un lugar que amamos y que experimenten este lugar tan especial, de manera muy personal.
La madre de Robert, Pilar, nació y vivió en esta región de España hasta que ella y Lee se casaron y formaron su familia en Nueva York. A lo largo de los años, Robert y sus hermanos pasaron muchos veranos en los Pirineos y sus alrededores, viviendo con sus abuelos, tías, tíos y familiares. Es esta rica herencia de la familia López-Calleja la que ha influido tanto en la educación de Robert y fue su amor por España y su entusiasmo por mostrarme esta parte de su vida, lo que nos trajo aquí. ¡Ahora nos encantaría enseñaros esta región única y no hay mejor manera de disfrutar de España que la celebración de una boda!
Mandaremos detalles más adelante, pero queríamos adelantaros lo principal para que los que estén interesados en venir, puedan empezar a hacer planes. Queremos animar a todos aquellos que quieran asistir a la boda a explorar la zona. llegar unos días antes o quedarse unos días después.  También vamos a incluir información sobre viajes en la zona, e iremos actualizando  el sitio web.
TRAVEL
TRAVEL & LOGISTICS
PLEASE REFER TO MAP BELOW
How far is Ligüerre de Cinca from the Airport?
From Madrid it is a 4.5hr drive from the Madrid, Adolfo Suarez Airport.
From Barcelona it is a 2h 45min drive from Barcelona El Prat Airport.
High speed trains to Zaragoza can get you a bit closer, but it's still a 2hr drive from the airport or train station. There is no way to get to Ligüerre de Cinca by bus or rail, so you will need to rent a car from there.
What is the best way to get around?
We recommend renting a car for easiest travel. You do not need an international driver's license. You must book all transportation and car rental in advance. As easy as transportation is in Spain, everything is reserved.
Note** Speeding in Spain - Spain has a very high tech radar system so please be careful and keep an eye on your driving speed. You don't want to get home from a great trip only to receive a ticket months later!
Alternative options and specifics if you arrive via Barcelona:
We suggest taking a cab from Barcelona airport to the main train station and catch a high speed (AVE or Renfe) train to Zaragoza, if you want to go that route.  Otherwise, the easiest option is renting a car at airport: The car rental is directly across the street from baggage claim at the airport.
Alternative options and specifics if you arrive via Madrid:
One would need to take the metro or a taxi to the main train station, Atocha, in downtown Madrid to catch a train. Most stations have buses and trains and car rental agencies.  One could also reserve and take a bus directly to Zaragoza main terminal from the airport about 3hrs.  Again, the easiest option is to rent a car at the airport.  if you take the bus or the train, it only gets you to Zaragoza and from there you will need to rent a car.
CAR RENTALS:
Please keep in mind that in Spain, the default car has a manual transmission. You must specify an automatic transmission, if needed (they are usually a bit more expensive). Please pay attention to the type of fuel your car requires- you don't want to put Diesel fuel into a Gasoline engine, and vice versa. International drivers permits are not mandatory, but within the last few months, we have been told that if you are speeding in Catalonia and get pulled over, they will ask you for it...so do not speed!
TRAIN INFORMATION:
Trains in Spain are fantastic, but please make note that you MUST make reservations in advance. Tickets go on sale 30 days in advance. https://www.raileurope.com/
